Solar Electricity

What is solar electricity?
Photovoltaic panels, which are made from semi-conducting material, are used to create an electric field when light shines on them. The amount of electricity produced depends on the number of panels used and the strength of the sun, although electricity can still be generated on cloudy days.
Electricity generated by these photovoltaic systems can be used in the home and any extra can be sold back to the National Grid. The Feed in Tariff is paid on all electricity generated.
The 'FIT' (Feed in Tariff) pays you 21p for each unit generated (kWh) whether you use it or not. If you use the electricity during the day this is 'FREE', saving you 12-13p per unit on your bill. In addition to the 21p, electricity not used will be exported and you will be paid 3.1p per unit by utility supplier.
Income = kWh x 21p + export x 3.1p + Savings @ 12p.
